GOexchange started and then suddenly quit with an error message stating, "The Databases on this system are Inconsistent, unable to continue maintenance." What happened?

One of your Microsoft Exchange stores is in an inconsistent state. This means that the database did not shut down correctly and that the transactions log files have not been committed to the database or it could be an indication that the database is damaged in some form. GOexchange stopped because it’s built in Exchange intelligence makes sure that your databases are “intact” prior to any type of maintenance takes place.  An inconsistent database will require the presence of the correct corresponding transaction logs to start. So if you see this error when you attempt to run a GOexchange maintenance, that means that;

 1. The database had previously crashed/seized up and had a serious error before GOexchange was run. GOexchange checks the state of each store before it takes any type of maintenance action and therefore this state existed prior to the implementation or running of GOexchange.

 2. It is also possible that when the store was previously dismounted  that the database did not dismount cleanly and that some of the pending transactions in the logs may not have been committed to the database file.

GOexchange is a maintenance tool and performs tasks on the Databases much like a mechanic performs a tune up or an oil change on a car. Therefore, if the Database is in an inconsistent state (much like a car having a seized or broken engine) it cannot resolve these types of problems. If GOexchange had been implemented earlier in the Exchange Server life, the inconsistent issue may have been avoided. If for some reason you receive this message it is a VERY SERIOUS error and must be looked at by a specialist. DO NOT under any circumstance attempt to move forward without assistance .
