Is there anything I need to do BEFORE starting GOexchange?

• If you have elected to not utilize the integrated Offline Backup process ensure you have manually created a current Offline or Online backup of Exchange before continuing. If you have a hardware or power failure during maintenance you may need to restore from this backup.
• In order to reclaim the maximum amount of space it is recommended that you have all users delete unnecessary items from their SENT and DELETED folders at least 24 hours prior to running maintenance. This will allow GOexchange to reclaim the maximum amount of space while you have the Exchange Server offline.
• You may also want to consider implementing Microsoft Mailbox Manager which will allow you to administratively prune each users mailbox set on certain criteria. NOTE: This is usually a sensitive subject among users therefore we suggest that you consider this option carefully and also notify users of the Mailbox Managers impending use.
• In addition we recommend that you verify the settings for "Deleted item retention" in Exchange Server. This setting will allow users to recover messages for a set number of days even after they have been deleted by the user. Therefore, you may want to disable this function completely or set retention to a lower number of days to achieve maximum database compaction and defragmentation.
