Script Selection

GOexchange® provides a series of scripts for use with each maintenance job An object that represent the actions to take on an Exchange Server. Operators can select from a series of scripts to run against one or all databases, as well as custom processes, notifications backup actions and more..  Each script performs a series of actions upon all the selected Exchange Server information stores with that job.

To Select a Script:
 

  1. From within the Assign Maintenance Action Dialog, Click the "Script" drop-down and choose the script you want to run as part of this job.

Below is a list of the available scripts as well as summary and detail information about each script.

Script Name

Description

Preventative Maintenance

Summary: Provides complete error detection, correction and compaction/defragmentation.

Detail: This script is also referred to as a Full Maintenance script" because it includes the complete set of GOexchange® best-practice maintenance processes.

Recommended Use:

  • Create and schedule Operators can set the time, run time limit and repetition of a job a maintenance job to run every 4-6 weeks against all information stores.

  • This should be the default script utilized to ensure the information stores are properly maintained.

Store Error Correction

Summary: Provides error detection and correction only.

Detail: This script will run a limited subset of the "Preventative Maintenance" script to only analyze, detect and then remove/correct the errors and inconsistencies.

Recommended Use: You should run Store Error Correction if;

  • You have a limited amount of time to run maintenance.

  • Have recently run the "Preventative Script" and are just want to run error detection and correction.

MTA Error Correction

 

Summary: Provides MTA error detection and correction only.

Detail: Examines the MTA database for corrupted messages that interfere with message flow and rebuilds the MTA queues to get the MTA working again.

Recommended Use: You should run the MTA Error Correction if;

  • Periodically as a preventative measure.

  • If the MTA fails to start.

  • If the MTA queue builds and message flow stops.

  • You may also see events in your system's application log that indicate running this is necessary, such as: Event ID: 2110 Description: A fatal MTA database server error was encountered.

NOTE: The MTA Error Correction Script does not take action against any of the Information Stores. Therefore, when this script is selected you will not be able to select an Information Store Message Store provider for Microsoft Exchange Server. There are 2 types of message stores used in Microsoft Exchange Server: public folder store and mailbox information store. to be included in the maintenance process.

Offline Diagnostic Report Documents that provides summary and detailed information regarding a planned specification that has completed.

Summary: Provides error detection, correction and compaction/defragmentation reports and estimation.

Detail: This script is also referred to as the DEMO mode script since it is the only script available on an unlicensed server. This script will run a full analysis against all selected information stores, and provide detailed information about the errors and warnings contained within an information store. This report will also estimate the amount of disk space that is recoverable from each information store.

NOTE: This script DOES NOT WRITE ANY CHANGES to the Exchange Information Stores or make any modifications to the Exchange system whatsoever.

Recommended Use: You should run the Offline Diagnostic Report if;

  • You want to run a maintenance process for reporting purposes only.

  • You are evaluating GOexchange®. Once the process is complete you can review the summary and detailing reports outlining the state of the Exchange Information Stores.   To defragment the Information stores and remove the detected errors go to www.Lucid8.com or call us at 425.451.2595 to purchase a GOexchange® License.

Exchange Backup

Summary: Launches an Online or Offline Exchange Backup ONLY and does not run any of the GOexchange® maintenance processes.

Detail: GOexchange® can initiate and monitor Offline and Online Exchange backup jobs written by CA, CommVault, EVault, Lucid8, Symantec, Ultrabac and other backup solutions.  This script is used to test the Offline and Online backup Backup job performed while the Information Store is still mounted. This type of backup allows users to work without interruption. Online backups also automatically clear the database logs upon completion. process.

Recommended Use: You should run the Offline Diagnostic Report if;

  • You want to ensure that GOexchange® can successfully initiate, and monitor Offline and Online backup jobs assigned to a maintenance job.
