Protecting the DigiStore Repositories

Use your current backup-to-tape solution to achieve the following:

Example

Retaining up to 30 days' worth of data in the DigiStore repository is usually more than sufficient to meet the needs of most organizations. However, a corporate policy might require 90 days or more retention. In such cases, keeping all of the data on disk might not be practical, because it would require an inordinate amount of disk space.

By archiving to tape those portions of the DigiStore repository that exceed practical limits, administrators are able to remain in compliance with corporate policies while retaining a practical amount of data for point-in-time restoration.

The data written to tape retains the security and efficiency benefits of DigiVault, including encryption and compression; therefore, the data fits on fewer tapes, and, if the tapes are lost or fall into the wrong hands, the data contained on them is secured with 256-bit encryption.

If you need to retrieve the archived repository data, it can be restored to a special DigiStore import directory for immediate use.

Protection Methods

Execute periodic manual backups to accomplish repository protection. In addition, you can use the ESP backup integration agent to implement integrated archive-to-tape protection.
